Print Speed?

Post by slybunda »

Anyone tried printing faster than the default 40mm/s speed the tina2 is set to?

I'm not saying don't try it, but...

The main limitation on nozzle speed is the rate at which new filament can be melted in the chamber. I don't know what the power consumption of the heater block is, but (power in) minus (power lost by conduction, convection, and radiation) is all there is left available for melting filament, and again I don't know what the figure is but there must be a specific energy required to melt a metre of filament (which converts to power required for any particular feed speed), so there will come a point where the extruder is trying to shove filament in faster than it can be melted.

It should be possible to concoct some gcode which just extrudes filament at ever increasing rates to see when it stalls, or there must be some test files about to run nozzle speed trials.

We can be pretty sure the default is set conservatively.

Printed a lot of stuff today at 45mm/s speed and no issues so far. Have upped the speed to 50mm/s will test over a lot of prints over the next few days and see how it goes. Who knows maybe it will get to 100mm/s speed lol.
